Abstract

This paper presents the results of archaeological investigations undertaken in the traditional territory of the Cheslatta Carrier Nation. Excavations at two major village sites on Cheslatta Lake, and survey of a number of smaller lakes throughout Cheslatta lands are summarized. Pre-contact and traditional use sites are ubiquitous and numerous. Long-term occupation of the region, and an extensive trading network are evidenced. A distinctive socio-economic adaptive strategy is also reflected in the archaeological record.
