Abstract

Two Elementary School Teachers, a School Administrator and an Emeritus Professor describe a University of Calgary sponsored Archaeology Program for the Schools. Outstanding Archaeology Undergraduate Students work with Teachers to provide authentic experiences in Archaeology. Teachers and Archaeology Students cooperate in the planning and presenting of learning experiences. In particular, two projects with five to eight year olds are described to show how even young children can begin to understand what the science of Archaeology is about; why it's so important to preserve Archaeological sites; and how the study of Western Canadian Aboriginal sites can contribute to children's historical and cultural understandings.
